Ball valves

Ball valves are generally used as shut-off valves because, unlike conventional valves, for example, a ball valve closes by turning through exactly 90 degrees. However, ball valves have nothing to do with so-called ball valves, even though they are often confused with them. In principle, the flow rate can be regulated with a valve, which is not the case with a ball valve. This is because the flow is either closed or released by the perforated ball. Ball valves are basically fittings that are fitted with a perforated ball that acts as a shut-off element. This is particularly useful for larger pipe diameters.

Ball valves are often used upstream of end devices, such as pumps, because this is the best place to regulate the flow of water. The special design of ball valves minimises flow losses, which is particularly important for pumps. Generally, so-called soft-sealing ball valves are used, whose sealing rings are made of plastic and which function well and fulfil their function even at high temperatures, up to 220 °C after all. Ball valves are made of different materials, namely durable plastic or stainless steel. The use of stainless steel naturally offers many advantages, especially a long service life. This is because this material is known to be extremely robust and does not corrode as quickly as other materials.
