Sanke
Sanke - a koi with a rich history
A koi from the Sanke family is the most popular koi variety with a rich history and is one of the 16 most common koi species. This colour carp is also known as the forefather of all koi, as this koi ultimately serves as the basis for all other breeds worldwide. The addition Taisho, pronounced Taisho Sanke, actually stands for a Japanese epoch with reference to the years 1912 to 1926, whereby the first koi breeding variants originated as early as the Meiji period (1868 and 1912). In any case, the Sanke is a koi species that was recognised by society for the first time. The Sanke is still considered a status symbol for all koi today and is particularly popular in Europe due to its typical koi markings.
