Ozone

Ozone in aquariums - a powerful oxidising agent

Ozone is a powerful oxidising agent and can therefore break down organic molecules without producing harmful by-products. It has been used in aquariums for many years, but unfortunately not every aquarium owner is aware of it or it is not used everywhere. Contamination in the water due to faeces, food residues or the death of living organisms occurs in every aquarium. As many aquariums are virtually overstocked, the removal of impurities is a difficult task that a normal filter cannot cope with. A resulting increase in the pH value favours the conversion of ammonium into ammonia, the next stage is the formation of nitrite, a deadly aspect for the fish.

Ozone as an oxidising agent - effective and reliable

As ozone is able to convert or oxidise the toxic nitrite into nitrate, ozone is regarded by experts as an effective aid. Dosed appropriately and, very importantly, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, ozone fulfils many important functions. Among other things, ozone prevents an annoying and well-known yellow colouration of the water, successfully kills pathogenic germs above a certain redox potential and thus improves the overall water quality and general living conditions. BB Handel therefore has various ozonisers and corresponding accessories in its ozone range and will be happy to provide you with advice on this topic.
